Wearing White after Labor Day

I have this thing about rules.  Just as long as I'm not hurting anyone or doing anything super illegal, I break them.  Like crossing the street without walking through the crosswalk.  It's a little ridiculous that we can get a ticket for not abiding by this rule.  Or waiting until 5 pm to have a cocktail.  This is also very ridiculous!  I love brunch for a reason, and that reason is called mimosas.  Or, wearing white only from the start of Memorial Day to Labor Day, and then having to wait nine months until Memorial Day rolls around to wear white again, even when it's melting in March or April.  Being that we still have a lot of hot Indian summers here in California, I say as long as long as the weather is warm enough, I'm gonna keep rockin' my white.

This is how I abide by the rules.  If it's warm outside, I wear white, bright colors, neutral colors and black.  If it's cold outside, I wear dark colors, some neutral colors and black (you'll soon find out how much I love the color black).  Sometimes it's warm in February.  Sometimes it's freezing in July.  Just ask Mark Twain!  He'll tell you all about his summers in San Francisco!  As far as I know, the past two weeks have felt like fall in the morning and in the evening, but in the afternoon, it feels like a Bay Area summer.   And technically, I still have September and October left in the Indian summer to see how the weather plays out.   So before I say farewell to my white pants, I just gotta keep checking the weather apps.

And isn't wearing white after Labor Day just an American thing anyway?  There are all these old tales about why not to wear white after Labor Day.  Some of these stories make sense like not wanting to get coal soot on your white clothing in the winter when people still had coal burning heaters.  That makes sense to me.    Or avoiding to wear white when it's raining or snowing to avoid getting your clothes muddy.  That makes sense too.  But if you have modern heating in your home and the weather is bright and sunny, I say do what you want!

See how serious I am about following all the rules! ;)

I'm serious here too!

What do you think of these rules? Do you abide by them?  Or do you march to the beat of your own drum?  Let me know your thoughts!  Add a comment or feel free to subscribe to my newsletter to receive all future posts.

Also, because I wasn't able to post on the 15th of August, I'll be posting a bonus post next Thursday.  So stay tuned!!!

Ciao for now, Shelbi
